A műszeres leletfelderítés szerepe a régészeti kutatásokban Metal detector could become an important assistant to archaeologist if we have a relevant methodology on our disposal and take into consideration the technical parameters of the device and use it properly. Metal detecting survey can be made in different phases of the archaeological excavation depending on our primary goal. On the basis of mapping and distribution of the metal finds discovered we can more exactly outline the dimensions of the site, or determine its part showing intensive settlement features. Using proper techniques for cutting off the upper soil layer, we can earn important data about the context of the features and finds. We should keep in mind that metal detection adds to the collection of finds a lot of artefacts that, due to soil machines’ activity, would have been lost for the archaeological research. These finds include mainly well datable coins and decorations supporting the archaeologists in the exact chronological determination of the site.
