Helytörténet - Ulrich Attila: Két jelentős hegyaljai birtokos - tolcsvai Bónis György és Baksa István - javainak elkobzása 1670-ben

Ulrich Attila Confiscation of the possessions of two significant landlords — György tolcsvai Bónis and István Baksa — from the Hegyalja region, in 1670 After the disclosure of the conspiracy by Wesselényi, the Royal Chamber (central economic-financial government of the Hungarian Kingdom) together with the Szepes (Spis) Chamber started confiscations of unprecedented scale. They affected different classes of the contemporary society: magnates and gentries, citizens of agrarian and of free royal towns. Many soldiers and villeins had to leave their homes and possessions. Among the confiscated properties we find traditional allodia producing hard food and dealing with animal husbandry, but there were also wine-lands belonging to nobility. The latter, situated at the Hegyalja (Tokaj) region enabled conditions for a more modem farming. Cash money earned from wine production made it possible to start new investments. In the present short article the process of confiscation of some Hegy alja gentry properties is described. Despite of their being gentries they were able to significantly strengthen their social position with the help of the capital based on producing and selling wine.
