Sándor Erdész ethnographer (1960-1986) The 80th birthday of Dr. Sándor Erdész ethnographer of the Jósa András Museum of Nyíregyháza and director of the Sóstó Museum Village was celebrated in the Sóstó Museum Village on October 9—10, 2009. A temporary exhibition was organised in memory of the ethnographer and the founder of the museum. The objects selected from his ethnographic collection lent a personal atmosphere to the exhibition. According to the ethnographic inventory books, Sándor Erdész collected 2382 objects between 1960 and 1986: the visitors could see their list in a booklet in the exhibition and the readers of this study can also read about them in details in the annual. The collection of ethnographic objects was an important part of his work in the museum. According to the data in the inventory book, he collected tools of weaving and spinning, pieces of furniture, exquisitely ornamented folkweave and embroideries and objects of cultivation and animal keeping. He also collected kitchen utensils, material remains of festivities and ones of sacral functions. Folk furniture, objects connected with alimentation, artistic objects made by herdsmen, equipments and tools of various small crafts attest to the versatility of his interest. The objects that Sándor Erdész collected have been used for furnishing the houses and economic buildings in the Museum Village and also for the organisation of temporary exhibitions.
