Kaplony monostorának újjáépítése Károlyi Sándor (1669—1743) korában Kaplony materials kept in the family archives depict these constructions. One year earlier the main altar of the Nagykároly (Carei) parish church was ordered from the same sculptor. Contract of this work written in Hungarian and German was also preserved (Appendix). At the same place there are three further altar designs that must belong to the same master. It is not known exactly who and when made them. Neither we know which version was realised. In the 1730s a new reconstruction of the church was started: the nave was vaulted, some of the old windows were enlarged. That was the time when the design of the stucco planned for the ceiling of the nave must have been carried out. Archive materials dealt with in the present study pour light mainly at the details of the Baroque reconstructions. On the basis of these materials we are sometimes able to make assumptions on the Medieval parts. Baroque designs give us a lot of information on Eastern Hungarian art and art relations of the age. Unfortunately, these monuments of art do not exist any more and we have only a small number of sources of that kind.
