Természettudomány - Antónia Marcsik–Andrea Hegyi: Paleopathological lesions of human skeletal material from the site of Nyíregyháza–Manda-bokor

Nyíregyháza-Manda-bokor lelőhely humán csontanyagának... Paleopathological lesions of human skeletal material from the site of Nyíregyháza-Mand a-bokor A skeletal sample excavated at Nyíregyháza-Manda-bokor (East Hungary), housed in the collection of the Jósa András Museum (Nyíregyháza) and dated to the 8th-9th centuries served as source for the study of paleopathological lesions. The demographic profile of this sample of 42 skeletons represents 22 adult males, 14 adult females, 2 juvenils and 4 infants. In spite of the small sample, many individuals suffered lesions of bones and teeth, mostly degenerative osteoarthritis, initial ankylosing spondylitis, non-specific infection (secunder osteomyelitis), fractures, porotic hyperostosis, developmental anomalies of bones and teeth, carious lesions or enamel hypoplasia. Three specimens were especially pathological and very special for diffuse idiopathic hyperostosis, spinal tuberculosis, metastatic carcinoma. The purpose of the study is to present the pathological lesions, to reveal the ethical ideas of these peoples and their possible relationships and to add the special cases to the paleopathological literature.
