Régészet - Igor Gavritukhin: On the study of double-plate fibulas of the first subgroup

On the study of double-plate fibulas of the first subgroup Judging by the prototypes of Marne series, one of the initial regions of migration was in Western Volhynia or nearby, along the line Dniester-Western Bug. In all likelihood, a certain number of the kin of the newcomers remained outside the Empire. The reflection of new stylistic trends in the local series, such as the increase in the size of fibulas or the massive foot, could be explained by the communications with them and with new migrations. This hypothesis allows us to develop some additional chronological bases for the evolution of double-plate fibulas. Considering that the settling of barbarian contingents in Gaul could hardly have taken place before the end of the 4 th c, we can speak of the existence and use of Gródek series up to the end of the 4 th c, which corresponds with the dating of its nearest analogues from the Crimea. Accordingly, the style of the fibulas of large size and with massive lengthened foot combined with a "short" bow belongs to the later historical realities, most likely dating to the 5 th c.
