Természettudomány - László Szathmáry–Zsuzsanna Guba: Skeleton remains from Szabolcs County (NF Hungary) dating from the time of the Hungarian Conquest

Honfoglalás kori csontvázleletek Szabolcsból Skeleton remains from Szabolcs County (NE Hungary) dating from the time of the Hungarian Conquest In the study the authors present 62 new skeleton remains which date back to the 1 Oth century and were excavated in 7 localities in the territory of historical Szabolcs County. With the object of reconstructing the population structure of the age of the Hungarian Conquest in the area the authors perform a comparative analysis which takes into consideration 12 cranial measurements and involves the total sample known till now from the Upper Tisza region, namely, 75 adult male and 54 adult female cranial remains. The anatomical evidence is primarily based on clustering the results of the principal component analyses and on the discriminant controls of clustering. In the authors' judgement the population of the examined region may have been greatly heterogeneous as compared to the rest of the Carpathian Basin. This phenomenon may be in connection with the definitely different anatomical profiles of the sexes. The geographical diffusion of the different craniological variations in our region is consistently uniformly distributed. It appears that there has been a possible barrier at the west border of Bodrogköz and Rétköz which may have divided this heterogeneous population regionally.
