Régészet - László Szathmáry: Three cremated human skeletons from Nyírség culture (Early Bronze Age)
Szathmáry László Three cremated human skeletons from Nyírség culture (Early Bronze Age) 1. Vencselló - Kastélykert (Inv. No. 57.207.1.) The skeleton remain is by far the greatest part composed of micro-fragments and weighs 90 grams. The skeleton is burnt moderately and evenly on the whole. The sex is uncertain and the age of death can be determined between 30 and 50 years of age. 2. Vencsellő - Kastélykert (Inv. No. 57.207.2.) The skeleton is slightly charred and weighs 625 grams. A considerable part is constituted by mesoand macro-fragments. The left side of the female skeleton, whose age of death is between 25 and 35 years, seems to be even less thoroughly burnt. 3 Tiszavasvári (Büdszentmihály) - Dankó tanya (Inv. No. 57.204.1.) The skeleton is by far the greatest part microfragmentary and weighs 180 grams. It is cremated moderately and approximately uniformly. In all probability it was a female and died between 23 and 40 years of age. In the urn the human remains were mixed with cremated animal bones of 35 grams. The remains of the three cremated human skeletons described above are similar in several respects. The degree of cremation is moderate or even a little slighter and indicates an endeavour to reach evenness. The heat was centered on the trunk or below-trunk (i.e. thoracic and lumbar) regions. The unevennesses of cremation may due to accidental facts. The collection of cinerary remains was less equable as less attention was paid to the skull and the distal elements of the limbs. The absence of teeth is striking and cannot be explained without presuming a deliberate selective intention. László SZATHMÁRY Vasvári Pál Museum Tiszavasvári Pf. 56.
