Bartosiewicz László: Többváltozós statisztikai módszerek avar kori állatkoponyás temetkezések vizsgálatában

SZŐKE 1979.= Szőke, M. В.: Zur Problematik des Bestattungsritus mit verstümmelten Rinderschädel des Typs von Sopronkőhida. ActaAH 31.1979. 51-103. WILLIAMS 1979.= Williams, F. J.: Reasoning with statistics. Holt, Rinehart and Winston. San Francisco 1979. Multivariate statistical methods in the analysis of Avar Period burials containing anaimal skulls A special group of Avar Period graves containing cattle or sheep skulls as grave goods was analyzed in this study. Correlations between 25 types of artifacts listed in the inventories pulished by B.M. Szőke (1979) were redefined using a factor analysis. The following groups of closely associated grave goods were recognized: 1 This group is primarily characterized by a needle box found in Grave 25 at Sopronkőhida. It also contained decorative mounts, awls and sheep or goat bones. Female burials. 2 This type of grave furniture contains swords and pouch remains. Associated finds include buckles, flints and knives. Male burials. 3 In addition to sheep skulls, cattle bones also occur in this group. Sometimes such graves contain swords, but hen skeletons or horned cattle skulls have never been found in association with this type of burial. 4 This group is characterized by fragmented cattle skulls and other cattle bones. It may also contain pig bones, however, knives and cattle skulls never occur in these graves. The absence of other grave goods is remarkable in this group. 5 Necklaces and spindle whorls are the most typical finds associated with this group. These burials sometimes contain earrings and rings as well. While lances do not occur in these graves, hen skeletons are sometimes present. Female burials. 6 Spurs and lances are the joint characteristics of this group. The graves may also contain knives, awls and flints. Even hen skeletons may sometimes be associated with this group. 7 Rings, lances and pig bones are characteristic of this group. While mounts may occur in such graves, sheep or goat bones were not found in this group. 8 The most characteristic grave goods in this group include bracelets and sheep and goat bones. Sometimes these graves contained knives as well. 9 This group is primarily characterized by the presence of vessels. Sometimes the graves contained earrings and knives as well. The resulting factor scores characteristic of these nine groups of artifacts were subjected to a discriminant analysis in order to test their validity in the distinction between sexes and geographical regions respectively. In addition to the major groups of men and women, burials from 13 cemeteries were grouped into three regions. They included Eggendorf am Wagram, Mühling, Pottenbrunn, Tulln, Wimm 280
