70 HONTI SZILVIA ETAL. To the west of the Nagyberek, in Balatonkeresztúr-Réti-dűlő two layers of settlements can be observed: above the lower — it is Prehistoric, embracing a number of ages —, near to the present surface traces of a Late Medieval village were found. A number of earlier excavated sites (BalatonszemesBagódomb, Balatonboglár-Berekre-dűlő, Ordacsehi-Kis-töltés and Csereföld) also belongs to this group. Out of the group of the smaller probe excavations we must emphasize Balatonújlak-Erdő-dűlő where 17 rich, Conquering Period burials were found, while at Balatonkeresztur-KisErdei-dűlő the remains of the Early Bronze Age SomogyvárVinkovci Culture came to light. Important results were showed by the rescue excavations taking place during the construction, partly on the track and partly along the newly built approach roads. At Szólád-KisAszó a circular ditch and rich graves of the Late-Neolithic Lengyeli Culture were found. At Balatonöszöd-Csárdai-dulő Celtic and 16—17th cent, settlements, at Szólád-Kertek-mögött along with Early-Bronze Age and Avar settlement traces a Langobard warrior's grave with his lance, shield and pottery were excavated. At Szólád-Bozótmellék the site contained Late-Bronze Age, Avar and — rare in Somogy county — Hallstatt Period phenomena. As for the Avar Period in comparison with earlier observations a new, sporadic type of settlement structure was noted at Balatonöszöd-Vermes-dűlő and Balatonszemes. It occures on several sites that the settlements extended into the lowlands now marshy and covered by reed or wood. We started the preceding excavations on two sites in the last section of the track continuing to the county border. An intensive medieval settlement at Tikos-Nyárfás-dűlő, while a Late Bronze Age at Tikos-Homokgödrök were traced. The excavations were conducted under the guidance of the researchers of the Somogy Megyei Múzeumok Igazgatósága (Directorate of Somogy County Museums) and the Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Régészeti Intézete (Archaeological Institute of the Hungarian Academy). The rescue excavations during the construction were accomplished by the archaeologists of the Archeosztráda Kft (Archeosztráda Ltd.). Machines and workers were provided by the Leveller Kft (Leveller Ltd.). As in the last two years 14 sites were preliminarily excavated, we enumerated the sites — differently from our earlier reports — according to alphabetical order making the orientation easier. At the end of the article a short review of the rescue excavations of 2003 can be found also in alphabetical order.
