Data on the occurrence of black cherry in the Carpathian basin is from 1897: it was planted in the garden of a holiday house. It is known to be planted in experimental forestry plantations between 1934-1949. In Somogy county (south-west Hungary) it was planted in greater quantities on sandy soils, in years between 1950—1960 in lower canopy of Pinus sylvestris and Robinia pseudo-acacia plantations. According to data of State Forestry Service, in 2004 it can be found on 6,8 hectares with 100% coverage in canopy; on further 60 hectares with 51—99%, on 620 hectares with 5—50%. In shrub layer it occurs TWEEL, P. A. VAN DEN és EIJSACKERS, H. 1987: Black Cherry, a pioneer species or 'forest pest'. Proc. K. Ned. Akad. Wet. Ser. С 90: 5966. WEEDA, E. It has significant coverage even in near-natural vegetation, in all communities from alder moors (Carici elongatae-Alnetum) to dry sand grasslands (Festuco dominii-Corynephoretum). It occurs from temporarily waterlogged growing sites to dry sandhill tops everywhere, only long-lasting water cover cannot be tolerated. In Somogy county, the occurrence of black cherry with more than 5% coverage in canopy layer is documented until now in the area of 21 settlements, on 690 hectares.
