József Rippl-Rónai Memorial House (Róma-villa, Kaposvár)

The pictures from the Paris period represent the French-inspired new stylistic endeavours. It is possible to get an accurate feel for the above-mentioned „cornfield” painting style, which with vivid colours and mosaic brush strokes represents the Rippl-Rónai equivalent of the French fames movement. Then again, through his pastel portraits the artist introduced another original genre. The pastel pictures depict beautiful women, revered relatives, best friends and famous artists. The painters studio is established in a separate building, half of which was used by the master who cultivated the vineyards on the estate. A series of archive photos allow us a glimpse into the life of the artist. Today the visitor can also enjoy many Rippl-Rónai works in the Hungarian National Gallery in Budapest. The Kaposvár Memorial House provides a wonderful experience with its more than 100 exhibited pictures in the milieu in which many were actually created. As one walks through the Róma-villa, one can still sense the personal magic of this fine artist.
