Magyar Kálmán - Nováki Gyula: Somogy megye várai a középkortól a kuruc korig, 2005

came to the daylight by the excavation led by Kálmán Magyar. He also registered more parts of the large castle in Törökkoppany, which also functioned as a headquarters of Sandzak. György Sdndorß and Gyula Novaki joined to the work of elaboration of the researches on castles in the province of Somogy in 1984, while they were also running researches and measures all over the country By the end of the investigation of the castles in Babócsa and Segesd, a very good relationship - expertise and friendship - had grown between Kálmán Magyar, Gyula Novdki and György Sdndorß. They set up a target to elaborate all castles and fortresses in the province of Somogy The starting point of their project was based on the literature until that year and the researches and excavations of Kálmán Magyar. Sdndorß worked out a quite unique, simple and fast but very exact method supported by computer for his survey and measurements of the castles. This method has already been used for castle-researches in many parts of the country He was involved in about 56 researches of Middle Age castles and fortresses between 1984 and 1990. Besides some exeptions, his constant partner was Gyula Nováki, who could learn this method on his side. As of 1990 Sándorfi had to stop with the local researches due to his health problems, but also because of his other obligations - he was a Member of Parliament in the last three years. This work and the map editions were taken over by Nováki step by step, however he was still supported in the computerised elaboration by Sándorfi. In 1993 György Sdndorß died. It is a great loss to the science of the research of Hungarian castles and fortresses. His work was continued by Nováki, who succeeded to finalise all measurements of the identified middle-age castles and fortresses by 1998. Our main purpose is to let all enquirers, especially the experts and scientists know about the Middle Age castles and fortresses in the province of Somogy Most of these casties have already been mentioned in some earlier publications, even with some detailed information, but complete measurement has already been completed in a very few cases. With all this information we can deliver an especially good take-off for future researches and excavations. We also collected much historical data„sometimes of good quality, however in many cases we found only some data, or even nothing at all. In these cases the future researches and excavations will make such these facts, like the purpose of the casties, their ages etc, clear. We identified 83 castles and fortresses. All their measurements and their places in the settlements were published. We also registered 19 casties or fortresses where we could not deliver information about their exact place or findings; however we have exact sources of their presence. To find the actual castle or fortress will be the tasks of a later excavation. We made countless terrain investigations before an actual survey a measurement or an excavation. We also could clarify some improper identifications or determinations of a castle or a fortress. With our field investigations we were helped by others like Mrs. Gyula Nováki, József Dénes, Gábor Szilas, György Terei, and for casties and fortresses by Attila Bánhegyi, Zsuzsa Miklós and Imre Sipos. We thank them all. We also give thanks to the Castrum Bene, Association of Castles and Fortress Research, to the president István Feld and Richárd Horváth and Géza Pálffy.
