The recovery and analysis of fish remains from archaeological sites is a time-consuming and minutious exercise. This study presents the application of a computerized image analysis system in the mass measurement of small Salmonid vertebrae from a prehistoric site. Statistical parameters of that assemblage are indicative of otter activity rather than prehistoric fishing. Focusing on the methodological aspects of This problem, it is suggested that the same procedure could be applied to the measurement of fish remains recovered from otter scats, bird pellets and the like, thereby enhancing the efficiency of fisheries Research and ecological studies.
