Later the chureh could no longer accomodate the increased congregation thereby requiring the building of a timber choir by about the turn of the 18th to 19th centuries, though this is considered by most researchers to be of Romanesque origin. Construction involved renovation of the lower part of the staircase (apparent from the difference between the lower and the upper parts both as to brick material and to bricklaying).
