246 MOLNÁR ISTVÁN Turkish era cemetery in ISTVÁN During 2008 and 2009 we excavated 9 early new age burials near Kaposvár. According to the find material and the burial practices the cemetery can be connected to inhabitants arriving from the Balkans during the Turkish era. We found no mark of a church. The graves were linearly lined without destroying each other. The deceased were usually placed into W-E the vicinity of Kaposvár MOLNÁR directed, rounded cornered rectangular graves, while two graves contained side berms. Finds were scarce, a few buttons formed part of the attire. In a man’s grave we found an iron knife placed between the two legs pointing upwards and an iron needle in the eye socket. A young woman was placed sitting into the grave with an iron horseshoe under her legs.
