Víg Károly: A Villányi-hegység levélbogár faunája (Coleptera, Chrysomelidae sensu lato) - Leaf beetle fauna (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae sensu lato) of the Villány Hills, (South Hungary)
248 DUNÁNTÚLI DOLGOZATOK (A) TERMÉSZETTUDOMÁNYI SOROZAT 10. (2000) Leaf beetle fauna (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae sensu lato) of the Villány Hills (South Hungary) Károly VÍG The Villány Hills are the southernmost hilly region in Hungary. The divers orographical picture characteristic of this mountain, the strong Mediterranean climatic effects and the presence of loess are determinant in forming the flora and thus the fauna itself. A total of 161 leaf beetle taxa were found in the investigated areas. Most of the species found - apart from the widely distributed and very common species - prefer dry or even arid and sometimes sand covered habitats {Labidostomis lucida axillaris Lacordaire, 1848; Cheilotoma musciformis (Goeze, 1777); Cryptocephalus elegantulus Gravenhorst, 1807; C. fulvus (Goeze, 1777); C. quatuordecimmaculatus Schneider, 1792; Pales ulema (Germar, 1813); Entomoscelis sacra (Linnaeus, 1758); Chysolina reitteri (Weise, 1884); Aphtona lacertosa Rosenhauer, 1847; Chaetocnema scheffleri (Kutschera, 1864); Dibolia rugulosa Redtenbacher, 1849; Psylliodes instabilis Foudras, 1860). At the same time species could be found in mountains or hilly regions of the country or even in the Carpathians show the presence of cold and wet habitats located on the northern slopes of the mountain. These are as the follows: Oomorphus concolor (Sturm, 1804); Hermaeophaga mercurialis (Fabricius, 1792); Apteropeda orbiculata (Marsham, 1802). The presence of several rare or seldom encountered species {Cheilotoma musciformis (Goeze, 1777); Cryptocephalus parvulus O. F. Müller, 1776; Luperus rugifrons Weise, 1886; Longitarsus albineus (Foudras, 1860); L. helvolus Kutschera, 1893; L. lateripunctatus personatus Weise, 1893; Chaetocnema scheffleri (Kutschera, 1864); Apteropeda orbiculata (Marsham, 1802); Psylliodes circumdata (Redtenbacher, 1842); Cassida aurora Weise, 1907) contributes to making valuable the leaf beetle fauna found in the Villány Hills.
