Rove-beetles (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) collected in the Béda—Karapancsa landscape conservation district (Hungary). László ÁDÁM One hundred and twenty-four species of Staphylinidae are revealed in the Béda— Karapancsa landscape conservation district (in Hungary about 900 species are known). The majority of the rove-beetles collected in the protected area belongs to the widely distributed staphylinid species of our country. Among them, it can be found the species characteristic for the riparian zone of the rivers (e. g. Troginus despectus, Stenus comma, Nestus buphthalmos, Chiloporata longitarsis, etc.). These beetles live on the fresh river deposits. In Hungary, Chiloporata longitarsis is a typical species of the sandy or muddy stream- and riversides of the hilly regions. The characteristic species of the plant associations breeding on the higher inundation area- marshes, wet meadows, soft-wood (willow-poplar) gallery forests, etc. — are the following: Olophrum assimile, Arpedium quadrum, Stenus juno, Paederus balcanicus, Lathrobium volgense, Bisnius quisquiliarius, Paragabriusfumarius, P. micans, P. rubripennis, Tachyporus abdominalis, Ilyobates nigricollis, Ocalea badia, etc. Paederus balcanicus is a frequent and a typical species of the Great Hungarian Plain. Paragabrius rubripennis is a rove-beetle generally distributed in the hilly regions of our country. It lives in the alder gallery forests along watercourses, and it can be found sporadically in the lowlands, mainly along the large rivers. The hard-wood (oak-ash-elm) gallery forests are the most valuable biotopes of this region. Micropeplus marietti, Anthobium atrocephalum, Rugilus rufipes, Ontholestes haroldi, Allocypus melanarius, Schinomosa eppelsheimiana, Oxypoda acuminata, etc. are the frequent and widely distributed sylvicolous rove-beetles which can be found here. Medon ferrugineus is a characteristic species of the oak-ash-elm forests. Gabrius pennatus, G. splendidulus, Abemus chloropterus, Ditropalia obliqua and Liogluta granigera are widely distributed in the hilly, and sparsely distributed in the humid lowland forests. Acanthophus laevigatus is a characteristic inhabitant of the Transdanubian humid forests. Tesnus josefkrali (Hromádka, 1981), Tetartopeus quadratus (Paykull, 1789) and Semiris rigidicornis (Erichson, 1839) are recorded from Hungary for the first time.
