Abstract: Ferna soppongensis spec. nov. is described from Thailand and compared to Ferna dutti M.S. Saini & Vasu, 1997, Ferna brevis M.S. Saini & Vasu, 1997, Ferna centralis Wei, 2002, Ferna paralella Wei, 2006 and Ferna pupa M.S. Saini & Vasu, 1997.

Introduction

So far, only one Fema Malaise, 1961 species was known from Thailand, namely Fema chiangmaiensis Haris, 2000.

The sawfly (Tenthredinidae) fauna of Thailand is hardly known, only few papers are published, namely Togashi 1988 and Smith 2011 contain valuable data, further 1-1 record can be found in Koch 2007 and Haris 2000.

Material and methods

The material is the large collection of Linz Museum of Natural History which contains few specimens from Thailand, one of them is new species to science. For the identification the following papers were consulted: Saini 2006, Malaise 1961, Haris 2000, 2006, 2007, Saini and Vasu 1997, Wei and Huang 2002 and Wei 2006. The holotype is deposited in the collection of Landesmuseum Linz.
