Results

The author took part of a hoverfly collecting expedition in the Western Part of Turkey, approximately to Pamukkale region in Middle Turkey, between 05/01/1984 and 05/24/1984. The main purpose was to study of the syrphid fauna. The rest of the group collected other insects but also caught hoverflies as well. During 22 days spent in Turkey we covered exactly 4.000 km and visited 53 collecting sites in the area (Fig. 1). Despite the fine weather and lots of flowers, there was a small amount of hoverfly. Hoverfly fauna of Turkey is relatively well-researched due to mainly Siileyman Saribiyik's activities. The latest list of the fauna was published in 2011, containing 307 species from Turkey (Saribiyik 2011). During the field work, 56 genera with 157 species were found, 24 proved to be new to the fauna of Turkey. These are marked with an asterisk in the faunistical list.
