100 NATURA SOMOGYIENSIS Mesosoma rectangular , slightly longer than broad, anterior angles not pointed. Metasomal sternite 1 with small medial longitudinal carina, changing into spine­like process toward middle. Head rusty brown, anterior part more or less black or brown, mandibles rusty brown wih apex blackish or brown. Mesosoma rusty brown, legs black or brown, metasoma black or brownish black. Posterior part of tergites 1 and 2 with band of yellowish pubescence, pale band of pubescence on tergite 2 produced triangularly forward in middle ; tergite 3 with yellowish pubes­cence covering entire surface . Tergites 4 and 5 with yellowish sparsely pubes­cence denser on posterior margin. Mesosoma and metasoma with sparse erect long brown setae, legs with sparse erect pale setae (Fig. 155). 5-10 mm. Mediterranean species, it is extraordinarily rare in Hungary, found only in three localities (Fig. 8). Specimens previously identified as Myrmilla erythrocephala were proved to be Myrmilla mutica almost without exception. Known period of collection: 25. IV-26. VII. Distribution: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, North Africa (Egypt, Tunisia) and the Middle East (Israel, Lebanon). Myrmilla (Myrmilla) erythrocephala (LATREILLE, 1792) 13 (12) Inner side of metacoxa without tooth-like tubercle. Metasomal sternite 1 with small obtuse medial denticle. Depression on clypeus flanked by carina, two denticles clearly visible on ante­rior margin of clypeus. Mandibles tridentate, darkening toward apex, with small protrusion on inner edge at about middle. Tubercle behind base of antennae pointed. Mesosoma widest at posterior part. Process of metasomal segment 1 small, projecting forward. Head, legs and mesosoma rusty red; metasoma pitch brown, almost black. Antennae brownish red, darkening toward apex. Tubercle behind base of antennae and its surrounding area darker, pitch brown. Head and mesosoma with long erect and shorter appressed pale pubescence. No band of pale pubescence on tergite 1, band of pale pubescence on tergite 2 produced tri­angularly forward in middle; entire surface of tergite 3 covered by pale pubes­cence. Legs and ventral sides of metasoma covered by sparse pale setae; tergites 4 and 5 with pale brownish setae (Fig. 154). 6-12 mm. East Mediterranean species. No specimens collected in Hungary were found in collections. There are two female specimens deposited in the MTM collection, both from „Szászkézd" in present-day Romania. Distribution: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Middle-East (Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria). [Myrmilla {Myrmilla) caucasica (KOLENATI, 1846)] 14 (1) Winged forms, males. 15 (16) Head completely black or dark brown. Clypeus triangular, with surface smooth and shiny, with large dentiform apical process. Sternite 2 and last sternite with tooth-like process (carina) (Fig. 72). Mandibles tridentate, with pointed tooth-like protrusion before middle on inner side (Fig. 90). Tubercle behind base of antennae dark, reddish brown. Mesosoma rusty brown, sides frequently black. Metasoma black, segment I occasionally reddish. Head and anterior parts of mesosoma covered by erect, sparse, pale setae; other parts of body also covered by erect, sparse, pale setae.
