100 NATURA SOMOGYIENSIS Male clypeus transverse, with shallow depression. Ocelli small. Wings dark. Mesosoma with cone-shaped scutellar scale. Metasomal segment 1 bell-shaped. Felt lines present only on tergite 2. The genus includes one species in Europe that occurs in Hungary. 1 (2) Apterous forms, females. Clypeus concave, with small tooth-like basal tubercle and two anterior denticle, middle part bordered by moderately arched, semicircular carina. Mandibles long, pointed, bidentate, subapical tooth small, apex black (Fig. 117). Flagellomere 1 about 1.8* longer than 2, which about 1.3* shorter than 3. Mesosoma weakly widening backward, scutellar scale narrow, less than 1/8 of width of mesosoma. Metasomal sternite 1 with short carina, tergite 2 with long straight felt lines. Pygidium triangular, bordered, surface granulate, base coarsely, reticulately wrin­kled. Head, antennae, mandibles and legs pitch brown, nearly black, mesosoma rusty red, metasoma black. Head with erect quite pale setae, tinged reddish on vertex. Mesosoma with sparse erect black setae and appressed reddish-yellowish setae, legs and ventral parts of mesosoma with sparse pale setae. Metasoma, apart from pale spots and bands, with appressed dense short black setae and sparse long erect pale setae. Anterior part of tergite 2 with two transversely located spots of pale pubescence, posterior part without band.Eentire surface of tergites 3 and 4 covered by pale setae but bands broadly interrupted in middle. Sparse erect pale pubescence forming weak band on posterior parts of sternites (Fig. 201). 6-9 mm. Mediterranean species, it is extremely rare in Hungary (Fig. 28). Only two female specimens are known so far, males were not yet found. Known period of collection: 2. V-23. V. Distribution: Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine, as well as Armenia and Kazakhstan. Trogaspidia catanensis (Rossi, 1794) 2 (1) Winged forms, males. Clypeus with deep, transverse impression and less wide transverse furrow on anterior part covered by erect setae. Mandibles bidentate, with large obtuse pro­trusion on middle of outer side (Fig. 118). Scutellar scale conical, coarsely punc­tate, with smooth carina. Metasomal sternite 1 with medial longitudinal carina. Body, antennae and legs black, metasomal segments 1 and 2 rusty red. Clypeus, middle part of pronotum and middle part of propodeum densely covered by appressed yellow setae, tergites 3 and 4 with band of pale pubescence interrupted in middle. Vertex, legs, mesosoma, ventral parts of metasoma, and tergites 1 and 2 (except their posterior part) covered by sparse pale pubescence. Metasoma with glistening reddish pubescence. Wings very dark, "smoky" without bluish lustre. Large species. 12-18 mm. Trogaspidia catanensis (Rossi, 1794) 4th subfamily: Sphaeropthalminae ASHMEAD, 1903 Eyes hemispherical, strongly projecting from head contour.
