Identification keys

100 NATURA SOMOGYIENSIS 7 (6) Metasomal tergite 2 with three transversely placed spots of pale setae and with posterior band produced forward in middle. 8 (9) Mandibles unidentate. Pygidium variable, maybe smooth or punctate, or less frequently wrinkled, but in most cases apex smooth and at base longitudinally wrinkled (Fig. 134). Head and metasoma black, mesosoma rusty red, scutellar scale darker. Legs significantly darker than mesosoma, almost dark chestnut brown. Antennae grey­ish brownish red, becoming darker toward apex, occasionally entire antennae black. Vertex and mesosoma covered by sparse black setae. Appressed setae on head and mesosoma frequently with red or yellow shade. Underside of head, metasoma and legs with sparse pale setae forming weak band on posterior part of sternites. Entire surface of tergite 3 covered by pale setae. Smaller species (Fig. 176). 4-6 mm. A West Mediterranean species. In Hungary it belongs to the rare species, only few localities are known (Fig. 18). Known period of collection: 16. IV— 26. X. Distribution: Albania, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, as well as North Africa (Algeria, Morocco). Physetopoda pusilla (KLUG, 1835) 9 (8) Mandibles tridentate. Pygidium densely granulate at apex and confluently wrin­kled, almost leathery. Head and metasoma black, mesosoma with scutellar scale rusty red. Legs darker than mesosoma. First 7 antennal segmenst brownish red, further segments darker. Vertex and mesosoma covered by sparse black setae, appressed red setae on head present. Underside of head, metasoma and legs with sparse pale setae forming weak band on posterior part of sternites. Entire surface of tergite 3 cov­ered by pale setae. Smaller species. 7 mm. A species of south-eastern European distribution. It was described on the basis of male, the female is known only from one specimen collected in Greece ( STANDFUSS 2006). In Hungary it is a rare spe­cies (Fig. 19). Known period of collection: 30. V-13. VII. Distribution: Greece, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Kazakhstan. Physetopoda cingulata (COSTA, 1858) Winged forms, males. Mandible bidentate, narrow; outer side without strong, obtuse protrusion. Mesosoma red, except black propodeum. Ocelli small. Not yet found in Hungary. Physetopoda pusilla (KLUG, 1835) Mandible with strong, obtuse protrusion on outer side. Ocelli conspicuously large, diameter of anterior ocellus larger than distance between anterior ocellus and one of posterior ocelli; distance between one of posterior ocelli and compound eye about equal to diameter of ocellus. 10 (1) 11 (12) 12 (11) 13 (14)
