Abstract: During a faunistical exploration of Nagy-berek at the Lake Balaton (Hungary) carried out between 2003 and 2009, 136 water beetle species were recorded. Important faunistic records are new localities of Hydroporus longicornis Sharp, 1871, H. melanarius Sturm, 1835, H. neglectus Schaum, 1845, H. notatus Sturm, 1835,//. umbrosus (Gyllenhal, 1808), Laccornis kocae (Gangibauer, 1904), Agabus nebulosus (Forster, 1771), A. striolatus (Gyllenhal, 1808), Ilybius guttiger (Gyllenhal, 1818), Graphoderus zonatus (Hoppe, 1795), Gyrinus suffriani Scriba, 1855, Hydrochus megaphallus Berge Henegouwen, 1988, Cercyon hungaricus Endrődy-Younga 1967, Laccobius simulatrix d'Orchymont, 1932, Enochrus ater (Kuwert, 1888) and E. hamifer (Ganglbauer, 1901). Keywords: Haliplidae, Dytiscidae, Noteridae, Gyrinidae, Georissidae, Hydrochidae, Helophoridae, Hydropilidae, Balaton, Hungary. Introduction Nagy-berek was originally a bay of the lake Balaton. The surface is flat, the sandbarriers alternate with longitudinal and oval, humid depressions and moor hollows. A part of the area, the Nagybereki Fehérvíz Nature Landscape Protection Area - 1527 hectares - is under protection. The preliminary results of the faunistic investigations were published by LŐKKÖS (2006). So far we have published records from the streams surroundings the Nagy-berek: from the Pogány-völgyi-víz (Lengyeltóti) ( MÓRA et al 2007) and the Nyugati-övcsatorna (GULYÁS et al 1999). The water beetles of the surrounding areas are comparatively well known. Published records are available from the Lake Balaton (MERKL 1996), the Kis-Balaton (KONDOROSY et al 1996, CSABAI et al 2001) and the inflows of the Lake Balaton ( GULYÁS et al 1999, MÓRA et al 2007). In this paper the results of a survey of the water beetle families Haliplidae, Dytiscidae, Noteridae, Gyrinidae, Georissidae, Spercheidae, Helophoridae, Hydrochidae, Hydrophilidae are summarized. So far, 248 species of these 9 families known to occur in Hungary.
