B. Czeller Szilvia: Közösségi-kulturális élet a barcsi cigányok körében

В. Czeller Szilvia: Közösségi - kulturális élet a barcsi cigányok körében SZILVIA B. CZELLER COMMUNAL AND CULTURAL LIFE OF THE GYPSIES IN BARCS SUMMARY The aim of this article is to show that through the last decades what kind of community events, cultural programmes were arranged and what kind of organizations were established to foster the gypsy culture and identity in Bares. The author wants to show the changes in the community and how it works even today. This essay uses the memories of the main characters, leaders in the gypsy community in Bares. The Hungarian majority and the Gypsy minority lived and are still living in peace with each other from the very beginning. Getting to know each other leads to a balanced relationship between majority and minority which helps closer cooperation. It is not in the majority's interest to assimilate the minorities, instead of this it should help them to preseve their own identity. These aims can only be carried out if both of them work hard on it and give their talent to it. 115
