Rózsás Márton: Törökkori őrhely Drávatamási határában
Rózsás Márton: Törökkori őrhely Drávatamási határában MÁRTON RÓZSÁS TURKISH AGE POST ON THE BORDER OF DRÁVATAMÁSI SUMMARY Up to the present, during the research of the archeological relics of the Turkish occupation, a little attention have been paid to the smaller strategic projects which provided the connection between the larger castles. In the south part of Somogy county, along the Drava river in the countryside of Bares several little posts can be found from the 16-17 th century which were the parts of the watch-system of three important Turkish castles: Barcs, Babócsa and Szigetvár. From these we researched the historical background of the two posts between Bares and Babócsa and the one from Drávatamási (between Bares and Szigetvár) called "Törökdomb = Turkish hill". Only lately a Turkish spy-map, which was indicates these little wach and it gives topicality to our subject. Mostly they erected artificial mounds in the marshy inundation area of the creeks or natural hills were converted into military posts where only a few soldiers serviced. At the tops of the hills wooden wach towers were built and they were encircled with trench and plank-wall. During the wars these small "fortresses" were often destroyed and reconstructed but nowadays only the foundations can be seen some places. The post near Drávatamási on the former bank of the Drava is interesting for us because not only the foundation of the wach-tower remained but the certain part of the trench too. We know from contemporary documents that there was a bridge across the Drava at this place and the soldiers from Drávatamási kept an eye on the bridgehead. The bridge was based upon boats which were hollowed out tree trunks was destroyed in 1603. 153
