On 23 October, Cegléd inaugurated a memorial to the revolution of 1956 - such a commemoration was all but imaginable during the past decades in Hungary. The history of the regime change was, in the case of Cegléd, symbolically correlated with the dismantling of the so-called “military park”: a deed which, for Cegléd citizens, equalled a small victory of local democracy. The events of the regime change in Cegléd are represented in the essay on the basis of local sources, such as newspaper articles, small prints, posters, photos and remembrances. EDIT SIN Literary history and museology in Pest County There are only two important collections of literary history in the museums of Pest County which is especially abundant in memories of literary life: the collection in the Sándor Petőfi Museum in Aszód and that of the János Arany Museum in Nagykőrös. The main reason for the limited number of such collections is that most writers and poets related to Pest county were residents of the Hungarian capital and their heritage was thus acquired by the Petőfi Museum of Literature in Budapest. However, the Directorate of Pest county Museums has contributed significantly with its numerous volumes and studies to the scholarly work related to literary history. Szentendre and its region are among the most elaborated areas within the entire county in terms of literary topography. But, in spite of the rich literary traditions and the well-elaborated source material in Szentendre, there were no literary exhibitions for many decades. This situation changed when, in 2005, an exhibition dedicated to the memory of Attila József, one of the most prominent Hungarian poets of the twentieth century (1905-1937) was presented in the Szentendre Gallery. Moreover, a comprehensive exhibition was arranged in the same venue under the title Szentendre and its region (from Budakalász to Visegrdd) in literature in 2006. of its special aspects in detail. Our aim was to present the poet’s life and personality for the public with a set of contemporary photos, writings and poems. We tried to follow the poet’s whole lifetime in order to show the changes which occurred in his thoughts and poems. In the atmosphere provided by the natural surrounding of the Danube Bend and by the Szentendre exhibition venue, we also emphasized the relationship of Attila József with Zsigmond Móricz, a distinguished Hungarian writer (1879-1942) of his time, and, besides evoking the days the poet had spent in Pest county and in the Pilis hills, we represented the poet’s usual table in a Budapest coffee house by a period interior. ANNAMÁRIA KOVÁCS Memorial exhibitions in the Danube Bend in honour of Attila József In 2005, during the memorial year dedicated to Attila József, the Directorate of Pest County Museums arranged two exhibitions, one at the Móricz Zsigmond Memorial House of Leányfalu, and another at the Szentendre Gallery. Our exhibitions considered the poet’s role in a comprehensive way and yet examined some
