Művészettörténet - Horváth Béla: Kernstok Károly „Őszi munka” című képéről
Béla Horváth: ABOUT THE PAINTING TITLED „WORK IN AUTUMN" BY KÁROLY KERNSTOK On the picture „Work in autumn" of Károly Kernstok which was painted in 1898 at Kisoroszi (County Pest), the movement, composition and strange colouring unite in curious harmony. The figures reflect Kernstok's great ability of characterization and excellent observation. The painting shows the social and ethnical problems of the peasant work in its complicated combination and faithfully. The work itself reflecting by the figures und scene of Kisoroszi the Hungarian petty peasant reality has its most important precedents and constituents in the French fine arts, particularly at Millet. The theme itself was directly taken over from him; namely the idea of loading on the wheel-barrow, then the form and many other, more or less essential formalities. The comprehension of the theme and the conception of the whole work show the influence of Corbet. Certain elements and details give evidence of that, that the Quattrocento painting and sculpture have had a great effect on Kernstok's art. Naturally the „Work in autumn" by its qualities had also a kind of stimulating influences on the Hungarian art at turn of the century, particularly on the peasant genre-painting, which was srtikingly influenced by this picture of Krenstok, first of all by the types of figures and several other formalities as well. 302
