keretek Az előkészített - lesimított, síkba vetített - képfelület kerettel történő lezárásával a kép saját, körülhatárolt térre tesz szert. A történetileg kialakult összefüggő keret a képjel nemmimetikus elemeinek egyike. Felső és alsó vízszintesei kijelölik azt a párhuzamos alapsávot, amelyben az ábrázolás egy adott tengely mentén megvalósul. A bekeretezett kép teljesebbnek, jobban a saját világában létezőnek tűnik, mint a keret vagy margó nélküli levágott kép. A régi időkben a kép behúzódott a szabályos keret mögé, a modern korban pedig mindinkább kilépett belőle sőt, el is hagyta, amikor már nem térbeliséget ábrázolt, hanem nem-mimetikus formai sajátosságokat. Az itt látható sorozat olyan példákat mutat be, amikor az üres keret csupán utal az elveszített kép - a tartalmi látvány - ideájára, és ily módon szuverén jellé válik. frames By framing a prepared pictorial surface - a three-dimensional scene projected into two dimensions on a primed support - the picture is made to acquire an enclosed space of its own. As a result of historical development, the bordering frame has become part of the non-mimetic elements of the image-as-sign. The parallel lines of its upper and lower horizontals determine the ground band in which representation is realised along a given axis. A framed picture enhances the sense of completeness; an image in frame seems to have a stronger presence within a world of its own than an image without a frame or a cropped photo without a border. While a picture would withdraw behind its regular frame in earlier historical periods, it has in modern times gradually reached beyond it, to eventually dispense with the frame altogether, representing qualities of form instead of depicting three-dimensionality. This series presents examples where the empty frame simply refers to the idea of the image, as the content of the scene has gone missing, thus becoming a sovereign sign.
