Dr. Mazányi Judit szerk.: Vajda Lajos Emlékmúzeum (PMMI – Ferenczy Múzeum kiadványai 25. Pest Megyei Múzeumok Igazgatósága – Ferenczy Múzeum, Szentendre, 2008)

cut-outs that refer to the continuation outside the picture recall the phase-drawings of the pulsing pictures of a film projected inside the soul. In the elemental struggle - which Vajda merely seems to document - the dark forces gradually cover the surface and according to their own smothery laws, approach the deadcentre. On 5th September 1940, Vajda was called up to labour service then demobilised because of a serious lungdisease. On 7th September 1941, he died. He did not work during the last year. He felt his creative forces had been exhausted. Indeed, in the last charcoal drawings, Vajda related everything about his age with the devices of the profession he had chosen. Judit Mazányi
