Nagybányán szerette meg a természetet, Barbizonban pedig a modern tájfestészet klasszikusaival ismerkedett meg. Már kortársai is megfigyelték, hogy nem annyira a táj drámai, mint inkább lírai átérzésű megjelenítése jellemző rá. Barbizoni képén egy egyszerű motívum, néhány útszéli szénaboglya ábrázolásakor a napfényes sárgás-barna színek és árnyalatok finom egymásra hatásával ér el harmonikus egységet. C'est à Nagybánya qu'il se mit à aimer la nature, et à Barbizon qu'il découvrit les classiques de la peinture de paysage | moderne. Ses contemporains avaient déjà remarqué que ce n'était pas tant une interprétation dramatique que lyrique qui caractérisait sa représentation du paysage. Sur son tableau de Barbizon, en représentant un motif simple, quelques meules de foin au bord de la route, il obtient une unité harmonieuse par le délicat effet du jeu mutuel des couleurs et des nuances d'un brun-jaune lumineux. He came to love the nature in Nagybánya and became acquainted with the classics of modern landscape painting in Barbizon. His contemporaries had already noticed that he does not focus on the drama of a landscape; rather, he has a feeling for its lyrical side. The harmony in his Barbizon painting, with the simple theme of a few haystacks on the roadside, is achieved by the delicate interaction of sunny yellow-brown colours and tones. EB
