A késő őszi erdő mély földszínei egyetlen, megbonthatatlan élőlény belsejeként finoman lüktetve töltik ki a képteret, amely è minden oldalról körülveszi, szinte magába öleli a kép előtt álló nézőt. Paál számára az erdő volt az a természetes, gyermekkorában megismert közeg, ahol minden gátlás nélkül otthon érezhette magát. Paál barbizoni tájképei a romantikus táj és a paysage intime sajátos, lelki tartalommal telített együttesét képviselik. Az első években derűs, nyugodt, később melankolikus, majd drámai tájképei a barbizoni tájfestészet kiemelkedő értékeit képviselik. Les riches couleurs terrestres de la forêt de l'automne finissant, palpitant subtilement comme l'âme d'un être vivant unique et indestructible, saturent l'espace du tableau, qui ceint de tous côtés, embrasse presque, le spectateur qui le contemple de face. Pour Paál, la forêt était le milieu naturel, connu depuis l'enfance, où l'on pouvait se sentir chez soi sans retenue. Les paysages barbizoniens de Paál représentent l'ensemble, abondant de contenu personnel et psychique, du paysage romantique et du paysage intime. The deep earth colours of the late autumn forest fill in the canvas pulsating gently as the inside of a single, indivisible being. The canvas surrounds and almost embraces the beholder standing in front of it. For Paál, the forest was the natural surrounding he became acquainted with as a child, where he could feel at home without the slightest inhibition. Paál's Barbizon landscape paintings present a peculiar union of the romantic vistas and paysage intime, filled with spiritual content. His landscapes - cheerful and tranquil in the first years, later melancholic, and finally dramatic represent the outstanding values of the Barbizon style of landscape painting.
