Hann Ferenc - The artist's career: an overview

Paulovics began his art studies in Nagybánya, in 1955. The school was closed down before long, so he had to carry on at the prestigious art school of Maros­vásárhely (Tîrgu MuresJ, meeting companions who belong to the forefront of con­temporary art today. His classmates were Lajos Páll, Jenő Korondi, the talented Elek Sövér, who died young, and László Péterfy (a painter who became a sculptor and has been working with architect Imre Makovecz up to the present). Paulovics shared a studio with Gábor Kazinczy and Gusztáv Cseh who created significant works in all graphic gen­res.Their friendship proved to be a lifelong relationship. And last but not least, he met sculptor Viktor Román and remained friends with him for a lifetime. In the late 1960s, Román worked in the studio of Etienne Hajdu, and, as an acknowledgement of his outstanding oeuvre, was decorated with the French Legion of Honor in 1 974. Paulovics, during the years spent in Germany, visited Román is Paris. After graduating from art school, he continued his studies at the Ion An­dreescu Academy of Fine Arts in Kolozsvár (Cluj). The educational approach of the Kolozsvár academy was quite different from that of other art institutes in Romania. While the Nicolae Grigorescu academy in Bucharest was characterized Modeschau - 1971 - tus a strong French orientation, preserved up to now, the Kolozsvár institute - 70x90 cm emphasized the craft and its basics, as well as the importance of traditions.
