present in the founding days of VLS. Even their choice of naming the group had made a connection with the Hungarian, more so the progressive art in Szentendre. The rehabilitation of the progressive Hungarian art in the sixties was in part about the rediscovery of Lajos Vajda’s constructive-surrealistic art in the thirties, which was duely represented by some exhibitions in Szentendre. Ever since the twenties the artists in town had been attracted by many different things. Compared to them the actions and happenings of the VLS members has been brand new, as they occupied the scenes and subjects of the traditional panel paintings. The VLS members were on the edge compared to the professional scene of artists. They were special in the history of Hungarian and Szentendre art, they did a lot for free art. They have integrated into Szentendre’s art relatively quickly, all the while widening its boundaries.
