The Ernő Mihályfi was born on September 3, 1898 in Bér, Nógrád County. His father, Sámuel Mihalovits, was an evangelical pastor. He studied at the Budapest Univer­sity of Technology and Economics but was drafted into the army in 1918 and fought on the Italian front for a short time. Later that year he resumed his university studies in a humanities program in Budapest. He received his doctorate in Szeged in 1923. He got involved in journalism during his college years, working first as a freelancer, then as a full-time reporter for the paper Est. In 1923 he traveled to the United States, where he worked as a butler, a deliveryman and a junior clerk, while still reporting back home for Est. Following his return in 1924 Ildikó K. He was friends with Gyula Derkovits and Pál Pátzay, among others, and became managing editor of Magyarország in 1936. After World War II he was mainly active as a politician. Between September 1949 and January 1951, and from September 1957 until his death he was editor in chief of Magyar Nemzet. He held several offices after the 1950s, in­cluding those of national assemblyman and Member of Parliamentfrom 1947 until his death.
