Anderko Anna: „Csalogány utcai típusú” kályhacsempék a füleki várból
ANNAANDERKO „CSALOGÁNY STREET-TYPE” STOVE TILES FROM THE CASTLE OF FILAKOVO The Castle of Filakovo used to be one of the strongest fortresses in the early modern Upper Hungary, which since its 12,h-century construction until the disastrous siege in 1682 always played an important role in the broader region. It gained greater significance in the Ottoman age. Although it was seriously modernised and enlarged by the Bebek family in the first half of the 16th century, in 1554 it was conquered by the Turkish forces and was serving as an Ottoman border castle for the next 39 years. After its recapturing and following extensive reconstruction, it became the „key of the mining towns” and the „Pearl of the Upper Hungary”. Its last castellan was Stephan Koháry II., who led the defence of the stronghold in its last siege but could not withstand the superior number of the attackers and finally gave up the almost completely destroyed castle. There have been a several excavations within the stone castle but the detailed evaluation of the material is still to be done. In my BA thesis I have prepared a repertory of stove tiles, which contains ca. 900 items. The core of the present study consists predominantly the finds collected during the very first archaeological excavation carried out by János Kalmár in 1944.1 focus most of all on the stove tiles of the so-called „Csalogány street” and „Miskolci Mihály” groups. There are altogether 22 types that can be distinguished clearly and other subtypes that can be defined according to the glazes and the stylistic character of their plastic decoration. Apart from the well-known types there are some of the similar appearance but without any known analogy so far. The evaluated material can be dated to the 16lh century but in several cases the 17th century should also be considered. The diversity and the quantity of the presented types provide a great amount of information regarding the tile stove makers of the historical Nógrád county. Certainly, some further excavations in the future may modify or expand the available data. 298
