NEOGRAD 2009 NÓGRÁD MEG\£^%I^ MÚZEUMOK ÉVKÖNYVE XXXIII. Records of János Belitzky, Museum Director (1963—1969) in the Nógrád County Archives By Zsuzsanna Bódi The legacy of records of János Belitzky (1909-1989), who was a teacher, historian, archivist and museum director, makes up appr. 7 linear metres in the Nógrád County Archives in fonds XIV.ll. The legacy reveals and preserves the life and work of an outstanding scholar with versatile personality. The personal documents - registers, school reports, certificates, diplomas - present the history and stages in the life of the scholar born in Lucenec and his family, their resettling in Hungary after the Treaty of Trianon, the years spent in Balassagyarmat, Kőszeg, Karcag, Pesterzsébet, the degree from the Pázmány University, the years in the Budapest Archives, and in a school as a teacher, then his being a director in the Salgótarján museum. The greater part of the legacy consists of scientific works, embracing a huge spectre from prehistoric times to the 20th century, from local history (and so studies to the monography of Nógrád County can be found) up to the 1848 revolution. Besides that he dealt not only with history but also linguistics, settlement geography, and history of religion, and last but not least, he tried his hand at literature, writing short stories and novels. His notes, notebooks used for research make up the last part of the legacy. For access by researchers a register of part of the legacy has been made attached to the review. 93
