The revision of the Biharian vertebrate faunas in Hungary and in Romania During the course of the project we reexcavated the type locality of the biochro- nological unit Biharium in the limestone qarry of Betfia. We investigated the fauna of the new locality Betfia IX. We gave the intensive study of the Allophaiomys finds, the hamsters and the herpetofauna. Vertebrate paleontological investigation of Miocene nonmarine sediments in the Pannonian Basin For a long time the „pre -Pannonian” Miocene sediments had been regarded as nonperspectivic by the Hungarian vertebrate paleontologists. For this reason we had to manage a pioneer activity in this theme. Our most important localities are the followings. Egyházasdengeleg. Sámsonháza, Oszkoruzsa Creek. Mátraszőlős, Rákóczi Chapel. The localities of the Felsőtárkány Basin Litke, Krétabánya Valley Tasádfő /Tăşad, Romania, Bihar District Kőalja /Subpiatră, Romania, Bihar District Vércsorog /Vărciorog, Romania, Bihar District Educational and semiscientific activity The permanent natural history exhibition „The message of million years in Nógrád" permanent exhibition realized in 1998 in the baroque monastery building at Pásztó. The screenplay of the exhibition was written by the author. The manual work of the organization was managed by An­tal Presits. Fossils were lended for the exhibition from the Hungarian Geological Institute, the Hungarian Natural History Museum and the Mátra Museum. A four language catalogue was published as a guide for the exhibition. The research camps Special research camps have been organized by us since 1982 in nearly every summer. The pedagogical conception of these camps is the intoducction of 20 -25 volunteer secondary school students into the culture of the nomadic life. Every camp has a scientific programme: a paleontological excavation. The camps were organized in the following localities: Pongor Cave, Répáshuta village, Bükk Mountains 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985,1986,1991, 1995. Peskő Cave, Felsőtárkány village, Bükk Mountains: 1987. Kőrös -bérc Cave, Szilvásvárad village, Bükk Mountains: 1988,1989. 243
