Irodalomtörténet - Andor Csaba: A 2000 óta megjelent Tragédia-fordítások

CSABA ANDOR TRANSLATIONS OF „THE TRAGEDY OF MAN” SINCE 2000 Madách’s most important work, The Tragedy of Man was first published in the January of 1862. A few weeks after its release some parts of the play could be already read in German. Later a lot of translations of it were published in more than 30 languages. Some were just short versions for theatrical performances. Recent translations were also published with the same purpose. The study deals with the foreign editions which have been published since 2000. Some of them had already been published in the past, only the edition of them was new but most of them are completely new translations. We have the highest number of various translations in German, but nevertheless there has been only one new German translation since 2000. In contrast to this, in the case of the Spanish language: before 2000 there was only one Spanish publication of Madách's main work but since then there have been three. 263
