A PURSE FIND WITH COINS OF THE EARLY MODERN PERIOD FROM THE VILLAGE NÓGRÁD IN THE LIGHT OF THE CHAMBER DOCUMENTS

The article deals with a purse find which was found in the village Nógrád (county Nógrád, Hungary) in 1845. The documents about the find are in the Archive of the Hungarian Royal Chamber. Based on the report of the financial administrator József Ribiánszky a purse with coins of the early modern period and some other coins were excaveted between human skeletens in a hill in the village. Only the purse with eleven silver and a gold coins got to Ribiánszky, who recorded their obverses and reverses. According to the record were in the purse a gold zecchino of Ferdinand Gonzaga, Dux of Mantova, a half thaler of Westfriesland, a half thaler of Friedrich Wilhelm, Dux of Sachsen-Weimar, seven three-stiver of Sigismund III., king of Poland, a three-stiver of Stephen Bocskay, Prince of Transylvania, and a denar of Habsburg Rudolph II. The purse was buried with his owner in the second quarter of the 17th century, in a turbulent epoche of Hungary.
