PRELIMINARY REPORT ON THE 2015 EXCAVATION OF THE GRAVETTIAN SITE OF IPOLY VALLEY NR. 3 SITE

In our present paper we describe the unstratified palaeolithic finds from the Ipoly valley Nr. 3 site. The first collection was gathered by Viola T. Dobosi and Katalin Simán in 1995. The finds were published in 2000 and re-published in 2010.

In 2015 the authors of this paper and their collegues gathered new unstratified finds from the surface and made a sondage trench. The test excavation was unsuccessfull. Here we present the surface finds. Most of the archeological material made of extralocal Radiolarites (Carpathian and Gerecse type also) mesolocal limnosilicites and local flint. There is two retouched tools made of extralocal Volhinian flint.

25% of the archeological material are retouched tools: end-scrapers on flake and blade, burens, retouched, truncated and notched blades and flakes. There are two bipolar blade cores and a flake core also. Technologicaly and typologicaly we could connect this material to the Late Upper Palaeolithic Epigravettian culture.
