The History of Iron Ore, Earth Pigment and Ochre Mining, and the History of the Search for Coal and Pyrite (Gold) in the Village of Szendehely Ore Mining in Nógrád County (Part 5)

In the South-Western part of Nógrád County in Szendehely drift mining not so well known even for geologists was carried out in the 19th and 20th centuries. Hardly any information is available about iron ore mining, more is known about the extraction of earth pigments and ochre. The latter two were produced in small quantities but for a relatively longer period by a definitely family-run enterprise inherited from generation to generation. Coal and pyrite (gold) were not mined in the settlement but were searched for from time to time.
