Levente Associations in Salgótarján (1924—1939) by Miklós Zoltán Fodor Act Lili of 1921 laid the foundations of the Levente Movement with prescribing Physical Education obligations for men between the ages of 12 and 21 who were not school students. The aim was the formation of a military pre-training system. According to a decree of 1924 regulating the implementation of the act settlements and companies with over 1000 employees had to form levente associations. In Salgótarján 4 groups were formed in 1925: the Steelworks, the Mining colony, the Iron Foundry and the Town groups. The present study describes the circumstances and characteristics of their establishment and operation up to 1939 presenting the physical and intellectual education of the youth, their participation at official events, the circumstances of the upkeep of these groups, and the conditions of discipline. 125
