„The Nation lives in its language”- Hungarian National Identity Conveyed by the Flag of the Steelworks’ Readers’ Society in Salgótarján by Zoltán Balogh

Among the aims of the Readers’ Society special attention was paid to the spreading of the Hungarian language and the cultivation of Hungarian patriotism. In our study we wish to introduce the history of the Steelworks’ Supervising and Working Staffs Readers’ Society, briefly the Steelworks’ Readers’ Society (of the Rimamurány- Salgótarján Ironworks Co.) having the greatest Hungarian Reform Era slogan on its flag, and as it is revealed in the items left to us.

Answer is sought to questions what the society’s major symbols relate with special regard to the ceremonial flag with the slogan, and what the flagpole nails symbolize.
