characterized by a little P4 nor to the hypsodont Schizotheriinae, „Chaücotherium" baltavárense = ? Colodus (Ancylotherium) pentelicus, but it can be identifíed with a brachyodont Miocène member of Macrotherium with an unreduced P4". The Hipparion-fauna of Csákvár, Eszterházy Cave is described by Kretzoi M. (1951, 1952, 1954). The corrélation of it with the MN zones is after Kordos L. (1987). 3c. Rózsaszentmárton Material: Chaücotherium goldfussi KAUP, 1833 1 mand. fr. with P4~mj-m2- sin., 1 mand. fr. with ml dist. fr., m2 dext. (Fig. 5.). Piacing: Coll. ofthe Hungárián Geol. Inst. Ob. 3972 Mea sûrement s: L: W„: W„: p4 dext. 17.9 11.8 15.0 ml dext. 27.3 14.4 17.3 m2 dext. 37.8 19.3 21.2 m3 dext. 37.8 19.3 20.9 Description: p4 dext: paraconid is not developet, but the metaconid is advance. On the buccal margin of the hypoconid there is a small conulus which is identical with the external cingulum. The entoconid is week. ml dext.: paraconid exists, but weekly developed. There is a visible metastylid and on the distal margin the posterior cingulum. The metacristid and the extemal cingulum are missing. m2 dext: No separated paraconid. Metastylied is not visible, but the metacristid is well developed. The posterior cingulum is strong, the external cingulum is represented by a small conulus. m3sin.: corresponds to the m2dext, but the external cingulum is absolutely missing. The finds from Rózsaszentmárton were collected from Pannonian lignite (Vigh Gy. 1939). 3d. Polgárai Material: Chaücotherium goldfussi Каир M2dext molar (Fig. Зс). Piacing: Coll. ofthe Paleontological Institut at the University Eötvös Lóránt, Budapest. Measurements: L: 41.9, Wa: 39.0, Wp: 36.5 Description: The worned status of this molar is between the Nógrádszakái and the Szentendre specimen. The protoconule does not touch the protocone. The posterior cingulum is week. The limestone fissures at Polgárdi produced a famous Hipparion fauna (Kormos T. 1911, Kretzoi M. 1952, Freudenthal M.-Kordos 1989). 3e Bérbaltavár Material: Chalocotherium baltavárensis Pethő, 1885 1 mand. fr. dext. with ml (Holotypus), lm2 dext, lm3dext Piacing: Coll. ofthe Hungárián Geol. Inst., Ob. 311, Ob. 3381 Measurement s: L: Wa: Wp: ml 24.6 13.0 14.5 m2 31.8 16.5 17.0 m3 35.3 17.1 19.0 Description: the molars are extremely small sized (Fig. 9., 10., П.). ml: the paraconid, the metastylid, the metacristid and the external cingulum are ail missing. m3: the distinct paraconid and the external cingulum are absent. The metastylid, the metacristid and the posterior cingulum are presented. m3: the morphology is similar to the m2. The W a is larger than Wp. The Hipparion fauna of Bérbaltavár is published by Pethő Gy. (1885) and Kormos T. (1914). The stratigraphical position is after Kordos L. (1987). In the Hungárián Chaücotherium matériái the Nógrádszakái and Szentendre finds belong to the Chaücotherium grande species. The mandibular fragments from Rózsaszentmárton are determinable as 234
