Ulrich Attila: Birtokelkobzások a Szepesi Kamara területén 1670-73 között

DISCUSSIONES NEOGRADIENSES 10. - URADALMAK KORA Confiscations of Estates on the Territory of Szepes Chamber Between 1670—73 By Attila Ulrich The consequence of the chamber suits after revealing the plot led by Palatine Ferenc Wesselényi were 4 persons’ execution, the occupation of the property of Hungarian Protestant nobles and the extension of absolutism by Leopold. From the point of view of economic history the period starting with 1670 and ending in 1711 was one of the most obscure periods of Hungarian history, under which a basic change took place in estate structure in Hungary. Our present study is just the base for an intended economic history analysis, but we presume that from the analysed and published data the tendency, which characterized the history of our country at that time, can well be seen. The surveys made at the confiscations of the property of magnates, middle and lesser nobles, burgesses and clergymen provide a significant starting point not only for research on economic history, but also on social history. The surveys extended to everything, and although imprecise and incomplete in many cases, important data can be collected about the size of serfs’ plots, their livestock, forms of duties, nobles’ allodial lands, life circumstances, conditions of the castles, manors, furnishing. 61
