village church was carried away by lorries and rail in the middle of World War 2: 50 families got to Emőd-Istvánmajor, 20 families to Ládbesenyő-Andrástanya, nearly 20 families to Sajószentpéter, 10 families to Büdöskútpuszta and some to Ernőd, Szendrő, Czechoslovakia etc.

In 1939 within the boundaries of Derenk 80 houses stood, nowadays the ruinous village has been re-conquered by nature, in some places housefoundations can still be noticed, and what is more the Derenk people’s descendants can exactly show the places of their ancestors’ homes.

Our purpose with this lecture: the physical disappearing of the settlement should not mean forgetting and losing the centuries long past of the Polish settlers of Derenk.
