Maróti Éva: Sealed Vessel Fragments in Komárom-Esztergom County from the ????

shapes (motives 37-49) can be traced back to the sigillatas too sometimes one can observe even on the sealed vessels the rodlets applied on the egg-lines of the terra sigillatas (motive 56). In the case of this motive one can observe that one and the same seal could be found on the outer wall of the dishes (Brigetio, Nitra-Branc) as well as on the inner wall (Tokod, see Kat.15.68.). Most of the motives are of leaf-motive (motives 64-126) and some of them developed from the terra sigillata prototypes, while others are characteristic for the sealed vessels only. Motives 127-128 and 139 are of vegetal origin, too - these are stylized leaves or probably fruits. Stylized leaf or 'small tree' is motive No 138, too - the motive that hall-marks the products of the Resatus. It is interesting to note, that apart from the two pieces with Resatus-leaves - they probably appeared here via commerce - there are no more scraps in the area's finds that bear the hall mark or the name of the craftsmen. Beside the predominant vegetal motives there are some animal representations, too, e.g. dog (motive 130), rabbits (motives 131-133) and birds (motives 134137). Some motives are so fragmentary or overstylized (motives 152-157) that they cannot be interpreted. We can state about the motives published in the article that they are characteristic for the Eastern Pannonian group of sealed vessels - their parallels were found in Aquincum and Gorsium. The second group probably belongs to the design assortment of the supposed workshop(s) from Brigetio. Probably these are motives No 56, 75-77, 81-86, 90-95, 101 and 137 and they mainly occurred on the finds from Tokod, Brigetio and Nitra-Branc II. The material of the findspots described here usually contains 1 or 2 pieces; at the Esztergom Castle there were found 10 pieces (16 scraps were found in Esztergom altogether). As to the number and the richness of the motives, the most outstanding find is that from Erzsébet shaft, Tokod, where 83 scraps were found. Unfortunately the majority of these finds were found during mining and not during archeological excavations, so we do not have any stratigraphie data, and consequently the finds can be assessed as remnants. The existing finds, viz. the greater part of the finds from Brigetio, the former Kállay collection and the old material of the Hungarian National Museum do nat have stratigraphie data either and the exact findspots are unknown as well. The recent finds, the archeological observations made by Julianna Cseh, Sándor Petényi, and László Borhy during the excavations will contribute to the evaluation of the older finds, too. 325
