Vésztő-Mágor (K. Hegedűs and J. Makkay)

K. HEGEDŰS-J. MAKKAY mains of the Arpadian age monastery lying on the southern side of the mound. She only uncovered a few prehistoric remains, mostly strongly disturbed and dating to the Bronze Age (ECSEDY et al. 1982,185-187). From 1972 to 1976 K. Hegedűs led six successive campaigns on the tell, partly on the western slope of the southern mound (trenches I to III), and partly on the western edge of the plateau of the northern mound (trenches IV to VIII), as well as to its west, on the slope (trenches IX and X) (for the excavation reports, see HEGEDŰS 1973, 25-26; 1974, 21-24; 1975, 32-33; 1976a, 21-22; 1977a, 15). The area uncovered in the course of these campaigns was 220 or 230 m 2 , a very small portion of the estimated 4.25 ha area of the tell. Little can thus be said about the occupation patterns and house forms during the various phases of occupation, or the possible size or location of their cemeteries; only the main phases of occupation can be defined.
