The First Hungarian "Concert Harp Manufactory" On the track of a forgotten instrument maker Andrea Pásztor Until the name of János Lenhardt was known only to those who carefully read one of the two general works on the music history of Pécs. In one sentence, we can discover that in the 1920s he became the first person in Hungary to make a concert harp, but that this harpmaking was short-lived. The present published study discloses the fate of the harp manufactory through a petition written by Lenhardt and preserved in János Pannonius Museum's Department of Modern and Contemporary History and archive sources. This is the story of Lenhardt's mechanised harp manufactory, which operated between 1924-1930 but which eventually failed due to lack of capital and the inability to wrestle with the world crisis. With the help of the sources we can also make a sketch of the career of Lenhardt, who participated to no small extent in the significant musical life of the city. Despite the acknowledged solidarity among the singing circle devotees, Lenhardt's professional failure stamped their mark upon his private life and probably contributed to both himself and his harp sinking into obscurity.
